Audience Research

Whilst doing our research through SurveyMonkey, we created a survey to ask people a variety of questions about Horror Films/Trailers. Our first question asked we asked was are you female and male? and from our research you can see we had an equal amount doing our survey.

Our second qustion we asked how old the audeince was, from our results we can see that the majority of people were 17 years old. And for our 3rd question we asked them do they like horror and 80% said they did which helps us work out if the younger genration enjoy horror more than the older genreation.

For the 4th question we asked the audience how often they would go to the cinema to watch a horror film, and 50% of the people say that they rarely go which shows that maybe people find watching a horror film in a cinema to scary maybe. Another reason why a majority of people won't watch a horror film in a cinema is because not a lot of horror films make it into the cinema.

On question 5, most people would rather watch a horror film on DVD than go to the cinema and watch it.

For question 6 we asked our audience who they watch horror films with, most of our audience watch them in a mixed group of girls and boys. But also we see that 40% of people watch horror films with their boyfriend/girlfriend.

For question 7, we asked people what kind of horror they enjoy watching. From doing the surevey we can see that the same amount of people said they like a Thriller or a Psychological one. From asking this question we can see what our target audience would rather watch so we can decide on our own trailer.

For the 8th question, we asked our target audeince what scares them the most and from our feedback we can see that a majority of them said Ghosts/Spirits which helps use understand what kind of horror we can create with our target audience.

The final question we asked was what settings scare you the most and they responded by saying that they find abandoned places scary. From doing this whole survey we can see who and what or target audience like to see in a horro film and what conventtions and techniques scare them the most.

Our Group's Initial idea for a horror movie

Our story is going to be about an old house which used to have a family in many years ago. The man who lived there was a strong alcoholic which leads him to be agressive towards his wife and daughter. In the end they decide they have had enough so they decide to kill him by torture. The story will be taken to present time where 3 girls get dared to go into the house for the night but things don't go to plan as the girls get possesed as the husband and dad from the house will do anything to get to girls after how he died.

Pitch For A New Horror Movie

Beyond The Line

A group of girls are at a graduation party in New York. After a few drinks the alcohol starts going to their head, and because they’re the ‘IT’ girls, boys were all over them. Bex, Chloe and Jasmine make the big mistake of driving home that night which doesn’t turn out very well. On their drive home they are all messing about in the car and before they know it they hit something in the road. But instead of looking at what it is they have hit they drive on in panic. But after 2 miles of driving they decide they need to go back and see what they have hit. But when they get there they see a body lying there, it’s a boy they met at the party. The girls are in shock from the whole thing, but was it them who actually killed him? The girls then decide to dispose of the body in a nearby wood just to put it out of their minds so they can just get on with their lives and they swore they wouldn’t speak of it again. A couple of months down the line strange things start happening to all the girls such as items of clothing being stolen and at the night Bex starts having weird dreams which involve a middle aged man in them who is always carrying a knife and just as she wakes up he goes to kill her. After all the strange antics, one of the girls have a massive problem, for 2 years now a middle aged man has been stalking the girls as he is obsessed with Bex. Because Bex won’t take notice in the mysterious man he starts killing people she’s close to, even her ex-boyfriends. When she finally realises that someone is killing her loved ones she tries to get hold of the police but before the police arrive he is at her house ready take her away. She manages to kill the stalker with a knife and now she can get on with her life but will Bex be stalked again or even killed?

Mood Board

I have chosen these images to put on my mood board because these things are what get me freaked out and scared. Such as Sharks and spiders. In most horror films they use iconography such as graveyards, and dark forrests which really scare me also. Another image i have put on there is a picture of small spaces which can be scary, which they sometimes use in various horror films to make the audience feel uncomfortable with the situation. I have also added a picture of blood on my mood board which they use in almost every horror film which makes me feel disgusting seeing gore in a film. In my own trailer i hope to use gore and blood which will be really effective for this particular genre.
